X7 was founded in July, 2001 as a worldwide provider of web development and related services to organizations of any size. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, X7 maintains additional offices in Cleveland, OH (January 2005).

X7’s competitive advantage comes from a non-traditional business plan for the Web Development industry. As the Internet matures, the supporting technologies evolve at an extraordinary rate. New technologies are developed and adopted almost daily, and web sites, and those who develop them, must be quick and flexible to take full advantage of the benefits of the medium. The traditional business plan does not allow these two important attributes. Maintaining a large full-time staff of developers can lock a firm into only a few approaches to meeting clients’ needs. Relying on the same skill sets in every situation leads to the narrowing of the range of possible solutions. Traditional web development firms have been forced to hire an extremely large workforce to provide additional services, creating high overhead and skyrocketing costs of development services for their clients. To solve this problem, X7 has adopted a talent-matched-to-need methodology. This approach allows X7 to maintain a small number of full-time developers to serve ongoing projects and provide maintenance services to our clients. The rest of the development tasks are provided by part-time and freelance technology and service specialists who are part of X7’s development network. These professionals have specialized skills in specific web-related technology and services, allowing X7 to provide the widest possible range of services at costs that have been up to an order of magnitude lower than our competitors. Each developer working for X7, in both part- and fill-time capacities has been evaluated at great length and determined to be an expert in their field of specialization. X7 currently maintains 15 full-time designers, developers and executives, and at any given time employs up to 300 additional technology specialists.

The bulk of X7’s development is based on hand-coded modular components. There are no WYSIWYG products used by development personnel. X7’s development team members have built over 1000 web sites and web-based solutions over the past five years. In doing so, the methodology of performing routine tasks has been developed into modular components. These heavily tested modules allow for the rapid deployment of back-end solutions such as web forms, content-management systems and e-commerce storefronts.
